Glossary of Terms
To aid with the understanding of references and terms used within this website we have prepared this page for you to refer to when answering questions prompted by our online quotation facility.
Safe Working Load (SWL)
The Safe Working Load (SWL) is the maximum weight the system is designed to carry. The “load” referred to is any item being supported by the crane bridge. Please ensure you include the weight of the load, hoist trolley, hoist and any gripper when calculating load for you application. Although the effort to move the crane bridge is small it can be further reduced by selecting the lightest size/weight of system to suit the application i.e. for 400kg maximum load normally select a 500kg capacity system and not 1000kg.
Options available: 125kg, 250kg, 500kg, 1000kg, 2000kg.
Crane Bridge Length (CBL)
The Crane Bridge Length represents the complete length of the Crane Bridge. The maximum length of a crane bridge is as follows:-
SWL 125kgs and 2000kgs - 8.5m
SWL 250kgs, 500kgs and 1000kgs - 10.0m

Crane Bridge Span (CBS)
The Crane Bridge Span (CBS) is the distance between the centres of the gantry tracks. A typical craneinabox® system calculates the crane bridge span to be 600mm shorter than the crane bridge length, giving a 300mm cantilever each end (refer to technical manual).
Gantry Track Length (GTL)
The Gantry Track Length is the total length of the crane, which may be made up of various individual gantry track sections. The online quotation facility gives you two options. Firstly to enter the total length of your gantry and the system will work out the best solution for your requirement and centralise the gantry support centres. The second option is for you to specify the gantry support centres, this is ideal if you have specific requirements. This option will allow you to enter up to 20 support centres and will add a further 1000mm to the length of the gantry allowing a 500mm cantilever each end.
Load Pin Height – (LPH)
In order to reduce the operational resistance to an absolute minimum we recommend that the trolley LPH is kept as low as possible. The LPH is measured from the floor to the trolley load pin from which a hoist/lifting device is suspended. The minimum Load Pin Height is 2000 mm and the maximum is 4200 mm. As we do not know the height of the supporting structure for ceiling mounted cranes we cannot specify the load pin height.
Power Supply - All Festoon Kit
If you intend to use an ELECTRIC lifting device, such as an electric chain hoist, you will need to provide power. Our simple festoon system combines cable and trolleys running in both the Crane Bridge and Gantry Tracks. The use of this system will slightly reduce the active travel distance and we advise that you check this dimension to ensure your full required travel can be achieved. The use of a conductor system for the Gantry Tracks may be a preferred option if active travel is restricted significantly.
Power Supply - Conductor Bar/Festoon Kit
Again for use with an ELECTRIC lifting device, this option utilises a festoon system for the Crane Bridge travel and an enclosed track conductor system for the Gantry Track length. The enclosed conductor system comprises 4 conductors at 50amps, for indoor use. This system provides virtually end to end travel and therefore does not limit the effectiveness of the crane, especially when considering longer crane travels. We can supply conductors for the Crane Bridge, however you need to contact our sales office for this option.
